This first HD photo shows a bas relief sculpture depicting a biblical scene, which is one of several located within the Eglise Saint-Roch, and this one is called Jesus Accable d'Outrages, which translates in English to Insults are Heaped on Jesus, although it is sometimes referred to as Jesus Overwhelmed of Insults.
Here you can see a close up of the bas relief, or low relief, which was produced by Louis Pierre Deseine, who was born in 1749 and won the Colbert Prize that became known as the Prix de Rome, which led to numerous commissions, especially for statues and portrait busts, many of which are now found at the Chateau de Chantilly.
Yet this close up photograph shows the title of Jesus Accable d'Outrages that has been put onto the bottom of the frame that surrounds this plaster sculpture by Louis Pierre Deseine, who had a prolific career, and this is one of several he produced for the Eglise Saint-Roch, which is located in the chapel called La Chapelle Saint Francois de Sales, and this is on the left hand side of the church as you have entered from the Rue Saint-Honore.
Now these particular base reliefs are called Stations of the Cross, or Stations of Christ, depending upon what source you read, and as you can tell, Insults are Heaped on Jesus is classed as Station 4 of the biblical scenes that can be found in several different chapels of the historical Saint-Roch church.
However, this particular photograph shows the tourist information board with additional information about the Saint Francis of Sales Chapel and includes a quote from the bible relating to this particular Station of the Cross bas relief, which reads; They stripped him and put a scarlet robe around him, and after braiding a crown of thorns, they put it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand.
