This first HD photo shows a bas relief, which in English is classed as a low relief, and this is one of several that are located on a wing of the former Palais du Louvre called the Aile de Marsan.
Unfortunately we have been unable to find out a name for this sculpture, yet when you are standing in the courtyard of The Louvre called the Cour du Carrousel, you will see that this is positioned on the third level below the pediment and is located to the left hand side of the first window on this wing.
In this close up photograph you can see the detailing that went into producing just this one bas relief, which was by Gabriel Jules Thomas who was born in 1824 and followed in his fathers footsteps to become a French sculptor, studying under Etienne Jules Ramey and Augustin Dumont, winning the Prix de Rome in 1848.
Having furthered his studies at the Villa Medici in Italy, upon his return from Rome, Gabriel Jules Thomas received numerous public commissions for statues and sculptures to adorn different tourist attractions including numerous churches like the Eglise Saint-Etienne du Mont, the Gare du Nord, Hotel de Ville, Comedie Francaise and several funerary monuments, receiving many medals and awards throughout his long successful career.
