Here you can see a statue of Saint Joseph who was a carpenter, although according to scriptures he was of royal lineage being called son of David, and being a compassionate man, after an angel spoke to him, he took Mary, known as the Virgin Mary, home as his wife and was to be the foster father of the son she was carrying, who was to be named Jesus, which is why you can see the statue depicting a man holding a baby.
The story goes on that the angel came back and told him that his family was in danger, so Joseph, Mary and Jesus left everything and everyone behind to go to another country, until the angel to him it was safe to return, which is why Saint Joseph became the Patron Saint of unborn children, fathers and travellers, with his feast day being celebrated in Catholic tradition on 19th March.
Unfortunately we have been unable to find out who produced this statue of Saint Joseph holding baby Jesus, however, in this photograph you can see the location of the statue within a chapel at the Eglise Saint-Roch, and when you have entered the church from the Rue Saint-Honore, the Chapelle de Saint Joseph is located along the left hand side just past the transept.
