This first HD photo shows the allegorical statue of Les Combats, which in English generally translates as The Fights, sometimes referred to as Fighting, and as you can see this is located on the balustrade by the roof line of the former Palais du Louvre.
So when you are standing in the Cour Napoleon courtyard and are look up at the wing called the Aile Daru, you will see the statue positioned third from the left hand side.
Now this particular statue was produced in stone by Jean Francois Soitoux who was born in September 1816 and studied under David d'Angers to become a French sculptor, and after first exhibiting at the 1850 Paris Salon, he started to receive several public commissions.
In fact, Jean Francois Soitoux received several different orders for the Musee du Louvre including two for the series of famous French men, this one of Les Combats and other allegories, along with two mythical figures, thus having a successful career and even being awarded the Legion of Honour in 1866.
