This first HD photo shows a winged allegorical figure designed as a bas relief sculpture called Guerre, which in English translates to War, and made of stone, this was placed on the historical Aile Lemercier wing of the former Palais du Louvre in 1806.
Here you can see a close of this War low relief that was produced by Antoine Denis Chaudet who was born in Paris in 1763 and studied to become a French sculptor, winning the Prix de Rome in 1784, which meant he could further his studies at the Villa Medici French Academy in Rome.
Upon his return four years later, Antoine Denis Chaudet received several public commissions for statues and sculptures to adorn different tourist attractions including the entire section of the facade that you can see in this photograph, along with some statues of Napoleon, which is what he is most recognised for, but unfortunately his career was short lived as he died at the young age of 47.
Now the Aile Lemercier is a very historical wing of The Louvre that was constructed in the 1600s, yet it was only during the reign of Napoleon Bonaparte that the orders were given to decorate the facade in a similar way to that of the Aile Lescot.
You will be able to see both of these wings from the courtyard of the famous Louvre Museum called the Cour Carree, and this bas relief of Guerre is positioned on the third level of the Aile Lemercier, to the left hand side of the window below the pediment, on the far right hand side of this facade.
