When walking around Paris you may be a little surprised at the amount of different statues, sculptures and memorials that can be found around this capital city, so we decided to take the time and photograph these artistic and historical attractions, then pinpoint these on our Paris map of statues.

Horses and chariot Quadrigas statue on the Grand Palais
This Paris sculpture is located on the top of the Grand Palais are different ornate statues that are known as quadrigas and we took this photo of the horses and charriot statue to try and highlight the intricacy and fine detail of this impressive sculpture, which is very hard to see with the naked eye due to them being located by the roof of this famous monument in Paris.

Golden statue at the Pont Alexandre III Bridge
This golden Paris statue is found on the Pont Alexandre III bridge there are actually four columns that are 17 metres high and are a part of the bridge construction, yet to make this pleasing to the eye and even more impressive, a gilded statue was positioned on top of each one, and this is a close up photo we took of one of the well sculpted and elegant gilded statues, so that we could see more of the detail.

Statues at the Petit Palais in Paris
In this image you can see one of the Paris statues located next to the elegant and ornate gilded wrought iron entrance gate to the Petit Palais, which was designed by Charles Girault for the 1900 World Fair in Paris, and this impressive palace style building is situated opposite the Grand Palais and holds a permanent museum.

Statue on the roof at The Louvre Museum
This is a close up photo we took of a Paris statue on The Louvre Museum, which is located on a corner by the roof, and as you can tell, there are very intricate details with the lions head, the eagle on top spreading its wings and much more that are hard to see just by looking up normally, yet alone the many people that miss this statue altogether.

Stone sculptures on the Arc de Triomphe
Here you can see the truly impressive stone carving art work with its fine details including the chain mail armour, which we took a picture of while we were visiting the famous tourist attraction of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, and this is located on one of the outside pillars of this impressive monument originally commissioned by Napoleon Bonaparte I.

Riviere statue by Aristide Maillol at the Tuileries Gardens
Here you can see a photo of a Paris statue by Aristide Maillol that is located in the Tuileries Gardens by The Louvre, and you can see there is a plaque on the base of this sculpture which provides his name along with his date of birth and death 1861 - 1944, plus the details of the sculpture which is called Riviere that was only completed by Aristide Maillol in 1943.

Charlemagne statue just outside Notre Dame Cathedral
Here is a close up photo of the bronze equestrian statue of Charlemagne who was the King of the Franks, the first Holy Roman Emperor who was canonised as a saint in the 1100s, and this statue in Paris is situated within the Place Jean-Paul II which is a square in front of the Notre Dame Cathedral close to where the toilets are located.

Quadriga statues on the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel
Here you can see a set of Paris statues known as a quadriga that are located on the top of the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel that were produced by Baron Francois Joseph Bosio in 1828, after the originals that had been taken by Napoleon Bonaparte were returned to Venice, and these statues you can see today depict Peace riding in a triumphal chariot led by four horses along with two gilded statues depicting Victory on both sides.

La Comedie statue in the Tuileries Gardens
This is one of the many statues in Paris that is situated within the Tuileries Gardens, and this particular statue is called La Comedie, which was sculpted by Julien Toussant Roux according to the plaque that is located on the base of this sculpture of a woman holding a head.

The Georges Clemenceau statue at the Petit Palais
We took this photo of a statue of Georges Clemenceau who was the French Prime Minister during World War I and is also well known for being a part of the Treaty of Versailles, and this statue is located in the grounds of the Petit Palais in Paris by the Champs Elysees Gardens.

The Bordeaux statue at Place de la Concorde
The Place de la Concorde is the largest square in Paris, and yet is actually an octagon shape that has become a popular tourist attraction, and at each of the eight points there is a large statue, which were commissioned by Jacques Ignace Hittorff to represent a French city, and in this photo you can see the statue representing Bordeaux within the Aquitaine region of France, that was produced by Louis Denis Caillouette.

The Etienne Marcel statue at Hotel de Ville
We took this photo of the equestrian statue of Etienne Marcel, who was the most famous of all the Prevot des Marchands, that translates to the Provost of the Merchants, which was a title in France prior to a mayor, and this statue was produced by Antonin Idrac and is located outside the south side of the Hotel de Ville, which is the very impressive City Hall in Paris.

Statues at Hotel les Invalides
Located just inside the main complex of the Hotel Les Invalides that holds dfferent museums along with the tomb of Napoleon Bonaparte, you can discover numerous diferent items, artifacts and Paris statues on display, just like the statue and the artillery carriage you can see in this photo, but if you look closely, there are also two stone statues that are positioned within the alcoves of the building itself.

Statue by Ossip Zadkine at Place Saint-Germain des Pres
In this image you can see one of the unusual Paris statues or should we say sculptures, that was produced by the late Russian sculptor Ossip Zadkine, who spent his time in France and Paris, and his Wife donated his estate to the city, so there is now even a museum in Paris dedicated to him, and we just happened to come across this by accident, while on one of our walks around.

Sculptures at the Square de la Place des Martyrs Juifs du Velodrome d'Hiver
This is just one of many sculptures in Paris that you can discover, and this one depicts the Jewish men, women and children who were rounded up at the old indoor cycle stadium and deported during World War II, and this monument was inaugurated by the French President and put in place within the square in 1994.

Bull and Deer water fountain statues found at the Trocadero Gardens
This is a photo we took showing a gilded bronze fountain sculpture positioned within a square basin at the Jardins du Trocadero Gardens below the Palais de Chaillot, and there are actually two of these depicting different animals, but this statue is called the Bull and Deer and was produced by Paul Jouve in the 1930s.

Statue of Roi des Belges Albert 1er in Paris
Here you can see a photo of an equestrian statue in Paris dedicated to King Albert I of Belgium who was King during World War I, and the inscription on the front reads Av Roi Des Belges Albert Ier and below at the base it states La France Reconnaissante that translates to The Grateful France, yet on the sides of the pedestal below the statue of King Albert astride his horse, there are also bass reliefs.

Alexandre Combattant statue in the Tuileries Gardens
This is a photo we took of one of the old Paris statues, which is located in the Tuileries Gardens close to the main fountain, and we are not sure whether the hand was meant to be chopped off or not, but there is also a plaque on the base, yet all we could make out at the time was Alexandre Combattant, so if anyone knows more about this statue in Paris, then please do tell us.

Situated on a roundabout close to Les Invalides, this is a photo we took of a large monument that is dedicated to Marie Emile Fayolle who you can see on the top of this statue in Paris, and on the base the inscription reads Marie Emile Fayolle, Marechal de France 1852 - 1928.

Statues on the Palais de Justice at Place Dauphine
There are so many different ornate statues in Paris to be discovered and many of these are located on or by impressive buildings and historical monuments, and as we were walking through the Place Dauphine on the Ile de la Cite island, we came across the Palais de Justice and took this photo of the lion statue by the staircase along with other statues that adorn the facade of this elegant and impressive building.

Equestrian statue of Simone Bolivar in Paris
This is a photo we took of an Paris equestrian statue of Simon Bolivar, who is recognised as one of the most influential military and political leaders that helped Latin America fight for independence from the Spanish Empire, and it may seem strange that a monument in Paris is dedicated to him, but he spent some time in the city and even witnessed the coronation of Napoleon Bonaparte that instilled a lasting impression on him

Les Forgerons-Riveteurs sulptures on the Pont de Bir-Hakeim Bridge over the River Seine
There are actually two cast iron groups of sculptures situated on the Pont de Bir-Hakeim bridge in Paris that goes over the River Seine, which were produced by Gustave Michel, and the group you can see in this photo is called Les Forgerons-Riveteurs or the Ironsmith Riveters.

Statue Drama in the Desert by Henri Fouques
As we were walking along by the Boulevard Garibaldi going back to our apartment, we came across a small park called the Square Cambronne dedicated to the General Pierre Cambronne and within this you will find one of the lion statues in Paris called the Drama in the Desert that was sculpted by Henri Fouques in 1892.

Jean Moulin sculptures in the Champs Elysees Gardens
We came across these unusual statues or should we say sculptures that are situated within the Champs Elysees Gardens and by these there is a plaque dedicated to Jean Moulin the French resistance fighter during World War II, and if you look carefully at the central statue in this photo, you will see the face of Jean Moulin with his trade mark hat that he was often seen wearing.

Statue of Jean Francois de Galaup in Paris
This bust of Jean Francois de Galaup the Comte de La Perouse shows the date 1741 - 1788, yet on another side of this statue in Paris in English is written Great Navigator and Explorer. Given by Australia to the City of Paris and the people of France, along with a date 1989, which is when this was sculpted by Ante Dabro and you will find this located along the promenade by the River Seine not far from the Eiffel Tower.

Equestrian statue of King Henri IV in Paris
There are several equestrian statues in Paris and this is a photo we took of one located on the Ile de la Cite island at the intersection of the Pont Neuf bridge, and this is an equestrian statue of King Henri IV that was originally commissioned by his wife Marie de Medici after he was assassinated, but after the bronze statue was melted down during the French Revolution, an exact copy was produced in 1818.
