This is a view looking in a south westerly direction right by the western edge of the Trocadero Gardens, where you can discover a vestige from the former Palais des Tuileries and another from the former Hotel de Ville de Paris, both of which were destroyed during the Paris Commune, although the City Hall was rebuilt.

A vestige basically means a fragment, relic or remnant of the original building that no longer exists, and the one closest in the photograph within the Jardins du Trocadero is that of the Hotel de Ville and other small fragments of both buildings can be found.
