Jean-Charles Alphand who was an engineer and in charge of Promenades and Plantations, created the Jardins du Trocadero for the 1878 Universal Exhibition in Paris, which was when the former Palais du Trocadero was also constructed, and the designs were based upon an English style, which Napoleon III was so fond of after his stay in London.

So here you can see a view over a part of the Trocadero Gardens looking in a southerly direction showing some of the meandering paths and irregular patterns that were created on this sloping site, where getting back to nature and letting locals from all walks of life have tranquil and enjoyable spaces, were key factors in the design.
