You will find that the Butte de Chaillot, or in English the Hill of Chaillot were once an area occupied by quarries, although the area was then renamed the Trocadero, so hence the Jardins du Trocadero took this name, and when the garden was laid out in an informal English style, much of the original features like rocks were utilised within the design.

This style of garden became very popular in France in the 1800s, and here you can see a manmade stream with steps for the water to flow down generating a cascading water fall effect within the sloping grounds of the Trocadero Gardens, with this particular water feature being located in the north eastern section.
