It was the mid 1800s when parks and gardens were started to be established in Paris, at the same time that many villages on the outskirts were annexed to the city, creating the 20 Arrondissements that there are today instead of the original 12, with the Jardins du Trocadero being in the 16th Arrondissement.

Although the original public gardens of former royal residences were designed in a formal symmetrical way, a new style of garden referred to as an English Garden is how the new green areas were designed, as you can see here with this view looking over the Trocadero Gardens towards the Eiffel Tower.
