We were again in the 6th Arrondissement of Paris within the Jardin du Luxembourg when we took these high definition photos showing the two statues called Naiads on the Fontaine de Leda, which were sculpted by Jean Baptiste Jules Klagmann.

This first HD photo shows the top part of the Fontaine de Leda with its pediment and the two Naiads located on the top of this either side, and although this water fountain was originally created during the role of Napoleon Bonaparte, these were added when it was moved to its current location in the Luxembourg Gardens.
Now this next close up photo shows the left hand side Naiad, which is actually a type of water nymph in Greek mythology and recognised as a female spirit they were meant to preside over bodies of fresh water such as fountains, springs, wells, streams, etc, and hence why they are on the top of the Leda Fountain.
It was actually in the 1860s when the Fontaine Medici was being moved and much of Paris was being reorganised and Gabriel Davioud wanted to save this fountain from destruction, so he entrusted the architect Alphonse de Gisors to relocate the fountain on the back of the Fontaine Medici, which was also being moved at the time, and both fountains needed to have a backing.
So Alphonse de Gisors entrusted the French sculptor Jean Baptiste Jules Klagmann to adorn the Fontaine de Leda with the two Naiads or water nymphs that you can see here, and born in 1810 he initially studied sculpture under Jules Ramey and entered the Ecole des Beaux Arts in 1828.
And becoming well respected, Jean Baptiste Jules Klagmann received numerous different commissions for statues and sculptures for several different tourist attractions in Paris, including the Musee du Louvre and the Palais du Luxembourg, plus there is another statue of his within the Jardin du Luxembourg as well these water nymphs.
